Jaguar

The Jaguar car line is a brand of the Ford Motor company, based in England, and is part of their luxury line of cars. Originally started as a company that manufactured sidecars for motorcycles, Jaguar has grown to receive international recognition as a premier car manufacturer. Often compared to the BMW, Lexus, Cadillac and Mercedes Benz, Jaguar has also seen a great deal of success in the racing world. Jaguar is often associated with prestige and luxury and has been featured in a number of feature-length and highly popular television programs, music videos and movies including Austin Powers, James Bond's Die Another Day, Gone in 60 Seconds and Swordfish.

Jaguar has several lines of cars for a variety of lifestyles and budgets, such as the mid-sized X-Type sedan and wagons, the luxury S-Type sports sedan, the full-sized luxury XJ-Series luxury sedan and the convertible sports car in the XK-Series featuring either a V6 or a V8 engine. In the recent past, the Jaguar company has undergone several significant changes such as the overhaul of the X-Type, S-Type and XK sports car lines. In addition, new frameworks have been constructed for the launch of the new XJ and XJ long wheel Long Wheel Base. The use of the new, aluminum framework revolutionized the way the company engineered their XJ series making the newer version able to increase in length, height and width while decreasing in overall weight. One of the great safety features of the new XJ series is the Adaptive Restraint System, which causes the passenger-side airbag to deploy based on the size and position of the passenger.

According to the Jaguar company, "At the heart of our product philosophy is a firm commitment to emotional engineering - the production of beautiful, fast cars that combine intelligent, relevant technologies and contemporary luxury. While modernization is part of this commitment, we will not lose sight of our traditional values. Our customers are those who seek out and demand excellence." It is this drive for excellence that has spurned on the search for new and improved technologies, heightened safety features and a continuing commitment for excellence in production as Jaguar maintains a solid position among some of the world's more prestigious luxury vehicles.

With the strength of their sports line, Jaguar entered the Formula 1 race with a special edition of their Xk8. The model did so well that it was commissioned for further production to meet consumer demands. Following this, Jaguar, in collaboration with its parent company, Ford, announced the creation of several diesel engine vehicles in the X-Type and S-Type series, designed to burn cleaner fuels and cut down on harmful emissions. The smoothness, higher torque as well as the lower demands for fuel has made it popular in European markets, but it has yet to see the same success in the US.

In addition to being a relatively higher end and expensive car, the Jaguar XJ8 Super V8 was ranked one of the top ten most expensive cars to insure by Forbes Autos.
